SIR Client: Florida Credit Union League (FCUL) and Alabama Credit Union League (ACUL)

Challenge: The leaders of FCUL and ACUL discussed the advantages of combining resources and set a deadline to make a final decision. As the go/no-go date approached, their unanswered questions centered on member support and successful integration: Would their respective members approve of this merger of equals? And, if so, what key issues and related messages would make a difference in advancing a successful integration? The association leaders needed quick insights. They turned to SIR to find the answers.

Action: SIR’s senior team dropped everything to review the consolidation plans and immediately hit the road, driving across Florida and Louisiana to visit with league members — the CEOs and board leaders of member credit unions. Over the course of a very long week, we spent time with dozens of credit union leaders in small towns and large cities across both states. Our insights and recommendations reported back to the consolidation team can be summed up in one powerful word: onward!

Results: The League of Southeastern Credit Unions (LSCU) consolidation proceeded based on the data-driven insights SIR delivered. Today, the association provides advocacy, business, and education support services to more than 250 credit unions with nearly $85 billion in assets and 7 million members throughout Florida and Louisiana.
